PhD Studentship: Investigating the quality of the passenger experience in the UK and its effects on transport providers and policy makers

The student will join an established EU team who are developing a tool to measure quality of passenger experience. This includes academic and industrial partners in 11 member states. The aim of the project is to develop a tool to measure and benchmark the quality of the passenger experience across Europe, from planning to arrival at destination, and to assess the impact of such a tool on policy and design of transport services.

Details of proposed research:
The research will address specific areas of the METPEX project, namely

  1. To  help with the prototyping of the METPEX toolset
  2. To conduct a stakeholder analysis in the UK of the people who would use the tool or its outcomes
  3. To conduct the UK based study measuring the quality of passenger transport in Coventry and West Midlands. The tool will comprise an app and procedures for conducting interviews, focus groups, and questionnaires.
  4. To investigate the extent to which, and how METPEX benchmarking may be used by key stakeholders

A confident and highly motivated applicant is required who will have the ability to work alongside a multidisciplinary and international team and to strict deadlines.

2.1 or above in ergonomics /human factors or related discipline: Masters in related field with evidence of project work which demonstrated high levels of engagement with public

Core components should be qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis.

Knowledge of public transport operation and latest trends in industry.
Knowledge of transport related policy
Knowledge of Coventry and West Midlands transport
Knowledge of best practice and standards development
