PhD studentship – Investigating human factors of environmentally friendly vehicles

The student will join an established EU team developing sustainable transport solutions

Details of proposed research:

The research will address the user experience of driving environmentally friendly vehicles with a view to informing iterative development of vehicles, usage requirements and infrastructure. The exact nature and pace and of the work will be influenced by the project description of work

  1. To conduct a state of the art review on ergonomics, design and usage related issues with environmentally friendly vehicles
  2. To design, implement and analyse a survey investigating the ergonomic issues related to current usage of  environmentally friendly vehicles in the project
  3. To inform the iterative development of vehicles in the project (especially Microcab)

Coventry University standard entry criteria for applicants to PHD

A confident and highly motivated applicant is required who will have the ability to work alongside a multidisciplinary and international team and to strict deadlines.

2.1 or above in ergonomics /human factors or related discipline: Masters in automotive ergonomics or related field with evidence of project work which demonstrates development and testing of HMI

Core components should be qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis, HMI, automotive design, engineering and ergonomics.

Knowledge of environmentally friendly vehicles and trends in sustainable transport
