PhD Studentship in Eye Tracking and Driving



Applications are invited for a student to investigate the role and potential of eye tracking and simulations in either the design of electric vehicle interiors 

Funded by: Coventry University – Coventry School of Art and Design
Fees: UK/EU fee equivalent for three years
Maintenance grant:  £13,726 maintenance per annum (tax free)

The student will join an established cross faculty team of cognitive psychologists, physiologists, designers and engineers working in the Human Technology Centre.

Details of proposed research:
The use of eye tracking in automotive ergonomic s is well established. The proposed research will address the way in which this can be taken forward, and together with physiological and other measurements used to aid the design of new vehicle interiors.

The exact  focus of the research will be  negotiated with the students, and there is scope for a motivated student to direct the research e.g. looking at learner drivers, elderly drivers and their interaction with new in vehicle technology, use of physiological and psychological measures to influence the design of future HMI

Coventry University standard entry criteria for applicants to PHD

A confident and highly motivated applicant is required who will have the ability to work alongside a multidisciplinary.

2.1 or above in ergonomics /human factors or related discipline: Masters specialising in automotive ergonomics or related field

Detailed knowledge of experimental procedures relating to eye tracking, quantitative research methods and analysis. Studies should have included modules in experimental psychology, statistics, HMI and automotive ergonomic s.
