PhD Studentship Future Recycleable – Lightweight Vehicle Body Structure Design Optimisation

Applications are invited for a: 3 Year studentship.
Funded by:
Faculty of Engineering and Computing (EPSRC funded)
Fees: UK/EU fee equivalent – please note this Studentship is only available to UK/EU citizens
Maintenance grant: £13590 maintenance per annum (tax free).
Supervised by: Christophe Bastien, Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Coventry University
And: Jesper Christensen, Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Coventry University
Charles Kingdom, Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Coventry University

Details of proposed research:
This is an EPSRC funded consortium project TARF-LCV (Towards Affordable, Closed-Loop Recyclable Future Low Carbon Vehicle Structures – TARF-LCV). A major activity will involve investigating the use of a range of metallic and composite materials for the design of lightweight low carbon vehicle body structures.

The work will involve the areas of:-

a) Computer Aided Design – candidates would ideally come with expertise in Computer Aided Design (structure and surface) and the development of automotive components and systems

b) Computer Aided (Finite Element) Analysis – candidates would ideally come with expertise in non-linear FE Based modelling, including explicit analysis.

c) Knowledge of Structural Optimisation Techniques – candidates are expected  to have experience/knowledge of topology optimisation, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis and High Performance Computing (HPC) utilisation and software coupling.

Candidate specification
Experience/expertise as detailed above (CAD; FEA; Optimisation)
