PhD Studentship in Digital Economy



The International Doctoral Innovation Centre (IDIC) established in 2012 is a venture represents an initial 170 million RMB (£17 million) investment by The University of Nottingham and its pioneering campus the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Ningbo Bureau of Education, Ningbo Bureau of Science and Technology, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, UK and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).

The IDIC’s Digital Economy Research programme is closely associated with UNUK’s Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute, and engages in multidisciplinary research with research groups across the university including Computer Science, Engineering, Business and Psychology. We are dedicated to researching, promoting and championing new ubiquitous digital technologies and solutions addressing challenges in interactive media, smart city, healthcare informatics, transport, logistics, energy, and environment.

Technological areas of interest include Computer Science, Information Science & Technology, Electronic and Telecommunication, Internet of Things, Big Data, Internet Technology, Smart and Sustainable Cities, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery, Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Multimedia Processing, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Mobile, Ubiquitous and Location-Aware Computing, Cloud Computing, Optimization and Operations Research, Computational Finance, Business Information Systems and digital economy.

We are now recruiting up to 20 talented individuals on to a unique 4-year PhD programme to develop a new generation of multidisciplinary researchers to become future technological experts and business leaders in the Digital Economy. Students will be based in the Horizon Doctoral Training Centre located in the School of Computer Science, Jubilee Campus, Nottingham in the UK during the first year then move to The University of Nottingham Ningbo China at the end of the first year and stay there for 3 years where they will graduate. Each student will be supervised by a team of experts from both UNUK and UNNC.

We are interested in ambitious and talented students from a wide variety of backgrounds including computer science, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences and human factors and we equally welcome applications from outstanding students with a background in psychology, business, economics, geography, social science and the arts to join our exciting multidisciplinary research programmes to tackle technological and societal challenges and to create new technologies for the Digital Economy.

To join us, you must have an excellent first degree and preferably a Masters qualification or equivalent, you must be able to demonstrate the capability and show the potential of conducting world-class interdisciplinary research. You must also have achieved a minimum English language qualification IELTS of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any element.
