PhD Studentship Green elastomeric nanocomposites for transportation vehicles

Dr Chaoying Wan

PhD project: Green elastomeric nanocomposites for transportation vehicles

Supervisors: Dr Chaoying Wan

Start Date. BEFORE October 1st 2013 and available immediately

Project description:

A fully funded PhD studentship is available in Dr Wan’s group. The project aims to develop high performance and lightweight thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with desired functionalities for low carbon vehicles.  Novel nanoparticle based catalysts will be synthesized for reactive-compounding of polymer blends by using melt processing techniques. The phase transition, compatibilisation, reaction kinetics will be investigated.  Polymer chemistry, physics and polymer processing technology will be involved. The student will receive training in polymer processing, characterisation and testing techniques. The project will be funded for 3.5 years. It will be conducted at Nanocomposites Centre at WMG, in collaboration with Prof D M Haddleton at the Department of Chemistry.
