PhD Studentship Global Food Security

BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership

Studentships available for a 4-year Interdisciplinary PhD programme in Global Food Security.

The University of Nottingham and Rothamsted Research are recognised centres of excellence for research and education in the Biosciences. Applications are invited to our joint, innovative, integrated four-year PhD training programme with research opportunities in Global Food Security (GFS). Providing, safe, sustainable food, with low environmental input for an increasing population is one of the most significant challenges facing the world and as such is a major Research Priority area of The University of Nottingham (GFS Priority Area) and Rothamsted Research (Food Security). Addressing this challenge requires integrative research across a range of disciplines, including understanding agricultural traits to improve yield, quality and production of plants and animals, food safety, processing and supply chains. Research projects are available across a range of topics that impact upon GFS in:

  • Microbial and eukaryotic (plant and animal) systems
  • Food safety
  • Minimising waste
  • Biomaterials processing
  • Mathematics and integrative biology

Information on the kinds of projects that are available can be found here.

The research expertise within these areas can be found under the research pages of the Schools of Life Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Psychology, Biosciences, and Rothamsted Research.
