We invite applications for the Elizabeth Casson Scholarship for the study of Occupational Therapy education, as taught at Dorset House School of Occupational Therapy for the academic year 2013/14.
The Dorset House Archive documents the history of Dorset House, the first School of Occupational
Therapy in the UK. It also includes material relating to the wider history of Occupational Therapy education in Britain from 1930, and papers of the Casson family. For more information on the Archive, see:Â http://www.brookes.ac.uk/library/speccoll/dorset.html
The MA-scholarship covers fees (up to Â£ 4,900.âfull-time for one year, including training in oral history; or
2 x Â£ 2,325 part-time, over 2 years, plus Â£250.for training). The award is towards tuition fees and oral history training only and does not include any allowances.
Duration of Scholarship The MA-scholarship is a one off payment only; the award will not be extended to cover continuation fees. The start date for a candidateâs scholarship will be the start date of the candidateâs full/part-time Masters course (in the History of Medicine) in September 2013. Conditions A candidate must have an offer of a place on the full/part-time masters degree course at Brookes or fully meet all criteria for study at masters level at Brookes.
The candidate agrees to undergo oral history training as guided by the academic supervisor (History); to focus in her or his MA dissertation on the analysis of the oral testimonies elicited from staff connected with Dorset House during a period of original research (oral history methodology); and contribute to the administrative duties (as directed by the academic supervisor) connected with an international conference on the history of occupational and labour therapy held at Oxford (in collaboration with the Dorset House Archive at Oxford Brookes University).Â Â Â The candidate agrees to depositing two copies of the MA dissertation and the oral interview tapes (incl. any transcripts) in the Dorset House Archive.
Funding from other sources Candidates who have accepted one or more awards from other sources of funding which cover all their tuition fees are not eligible for a Taught Postgraduate Scholarship and must not accept an offer of a University Taught Postgraduate Scholarship.Â Eligibility for a Scholarship will not be affected if a candidate is receiving funding towards maintenance costs.Â
Deferring the scholarship Scholarships are awarded to students enrolling in September 2013.Â Candidates may not defer take up of a scholarship until a later date.
