Award The University of Surrey Business School invites applications for two Masters Fee Scholarships, for the 2013-14 academic session. These scholarships, which are open to applicants of any nationality, provide a fee reduction on the Surrey Business School’s newest MSc, ‘The Extractive Industries, The Environment and Sustainability’. Each award is valued at £4825, representing a 50% fee reduction of the full ‘home’ tuition rate. For successful applicants, the award of the scholarship will be automatically deducted from the tuition fee. 

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, with candidates requiring a first-class or upper second-class (2:1) from a UK university or overseas equivalent. A Selection Committee will meet in August to select the scholarship holders, with the winners announced by early-September. 

The Programme The Extractive Industries, The Environment and Sustainability explores the challenges with tackling environmental and interrelated socio-economic concerns in the extractive industries. Addressing the growing need for community-level specialists in the mining and petroleum sectors, the course provides an analytically-rigorous but broad understanding of the global extractive industries agenda. 

This unique programme is the first of its kind in the UK. It adds to the growing suite of courses offered across the University of Surrey that focus on the importance of the environment and sustainability. Created by an industry expert, the course features interdisciplinary coursework; offers a rich mix of contributions from experts in academia, the private sector, civil society and government; and provides students with the freedom to specialise in particular areas. It also puts students into contact with key actors from the extractive industries, providing them with a unique opportunity to develop their own networks.

3. Successful applicants will be notified by the 31st August 2013.

Please note: To be considered for a scholarship you must be offered a place to study at the University.
