About the award

The College of Social Sciences and International Studies at Exeter is delighted to offer a fully funded studentship for a Home / EU student studying for an MPhil / PhD programme in the Centre for Genomics in Society (EGENIS).

Egenis has a strongly interdisciplinary culture, encompassing a range of perspectives from social science, biology, and philosophy.  The successful applicant will work with Professor John Dupré and will be connected with his European Research Council (ERC) project entitled ’A Process Ontology for Contemporary Biology’.  Topics of particular relevance include biological ontology and philosophical issues in systems biology, synthetic biology, and microbiology, though a wide range of other topics in the philosophy of biology would be considered.

This prestigious award is open to home/EU students only and includes the following financial payments:

  • Direct payment of tuition fees (at the standard UK/EU rate)
  • Maintenance allowance for accommodation and living expenses of around £13, 726 per annum.
