Funding Overview
The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is offering six scholarships to high quality applicants who are interested in a future career in research. The following postgraduate degrees are eligible for this funding:
MLitt (Master’s by Research) in Literature, Film or Linguistics
MA in English Literature: 1500-1900
MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature
MA in Creative Writing
MA in Linguistics
Person Specification and Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an award applicants must:
have accepted an offer of a place for 2015-16 entry on one of the applicable Master’s programmes in the School have UK/EU fee status
• have an achieved or predicted first-class undergraduate degree or a lower qualification with relevant professional practice that provides equivalent academic and research skillsÂ

Before applying for the funding you must first have been offered a place on one of the applicable Master’s programmes in the School. Please check the individual online programme page for the degree you wish to apply for and postgraduate application webpages for entry requirements and more information on how to apply.

Current CV (maximum 2 pages in length)
Transcript of undergraduate marks
Research Proposal of 750 words
The research proposal must address the following questions:
How have your undergraduate studies – or equivalent professional experience of relevance“ prepared you for the Masters programme?
How do you intend to use the Master’s programme to further your area of research interest (eg what modules will you take, how will you structure MLitt assignments, what will be the focus of your dissertation?
How do you envisage your Master’s programme leading to an application for a Research Council funded PhD?
Why is Newcastle University the best place for embarking on postgraduate research (eg in terms of resources, areas of research strength, research Centres and Institutes)?
