Our students and researchers are based in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.Â The English Literature section has particularly strong research expertiseÂ in Renaissance and Early Modern Literature and Culture, Eighteenth-century and Romantic Literature and Culture, Nineteenth-Century Literature and Culture, Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture, American Literature and Culture, Children’s Literature, Postcolonial Studies, Film and Digital Media and Theatre Studies.
Our students receive excellent supervision and use outstanding, dedicated facilities, including a newly-refurbished computing suite. There is a diverse and dynamic postgraduate culture.
For 2013 entry we will be awarding one studentship in English Literature (including Film) through the AHRC’s Research Preparation Master’s scheme. This scheme supports students undertaking Master’s courses that focus on advanced study and research training explicitly intended to provide a foundation for further research at doctoral level.
Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of Â£9,490 (2012/13 rates). You should meet the AHRC’s student eligibility criteria* and be intending to undertake one of the following programmes at Newcastle University in September 2013:
- MLitt (English Literature)
- MLitt (Film Studies)
- MA in Film: Theory and Practice
- MA in English Literature, 1500-1900
- MA in Modern and Contemporary Studies
