Vacancy Information
This study of how electrons interact in very low disorder semiconductor nanostructures builds on very recent discoveries by the group, which have shown how an Electron Lattice attempts to form under the influence of the mutual repulsion of electrons in very low disorder nanostructures. In addition to the significance for fundamental physics, this project offers the opportunity of a new method of utilising the properties of electron wavefunctions for the emerging field of quantum computation. The project will comprise understanding of the principles governing the conduction of electrons in nanostructures and the design of semiconductor structures and devices, which optimise the role of the electron interaction. The award is sponsored by EPSRC with the experimental work performed within the LCN as part of a major project supported by considerable funding and resources. Excellent facilities are available for the project.

Person Specification

Applicants should have first degree in Physics at a level of 2.1 or above (or their international equivalent). A Master’s degree is preferable.

They should also have a demonstrated interest and expertise in experimental physics, as well as knowledge of quantum physics, and experience in the application of quantum mechanics to semiconductor nanostructures is crucial in the understanding of the phenomena to be studied.
