3.5-yearsÂ
Supervisors: Professor Gopinathan Sankar and Professor Ivan Parkin (UCL) and Dr. Armando Borgna (ICES, A*Star -Singapore)
Applications are invited for a 3.5-year PhD studentship in a collaborative programme run by the Industrial Doctorate Centre in Molecular Modelling and Materials Science of UCL and A*STAR of Singapore. The successful applicant can start immediately.
The joint studentship between UCL and ICES (one of the A*STAR institutes in Singapore) will develop next generation heterogeneous catalysts for applications in organic transformations. The project will involve the (a) synthesis of catalysts, (b) characterisation using laboratory based techniques which includes XRD, SEM/TEM, IR and UV-VIS techniques and in addition, Synchrotron based X-ray techniques in particular EXAFS and high-resolution diffraction methods will be used and (c) catalytic testing of these materials. This will be achieved using UCLâs leading expertise in the catalyst synthesis and advanced characterisation of these materials in the initial phase [Year 1] Further catalyst characterisation (including in situ studies) and catalytic testing will be carried out at ICES [Year 2 and 3]. The student will return to UCL at the end of year 3 to write-up the thesis. The expertise available at both UCL and ICES will enable the student to get a diverse and varied training at the cutting edge of catalytic science.
To apply, please email an up-to-date CV to Professor Gopinathan Sankar g.sankar@ucl.ac.uk, via the âApplyâ button below.
Please note that due to funding restrictions only UK/EU citizens are eligible for this studentship.
