PhD Studentship Adsorption refrigeration/heat pumping innovations in sorption generator design

This award is funded by the School of Engineering in support of the RCUK funded Interdisciplinary Centre for Storage, Transformation and Upgrading of Thermal Energy (i-STUTE).

The energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of adsorption refrigerator or heat pump systems depend critically on the heat and mass transfer within the sorption vessel together with its thermal mass. A ‘good design’ depends on integrating the conflicting requirements of enhanced heat transfer, good mass transfer, low thermal mass , corrosion resistance, resistance to extreme thermal and pressure cycling, all with the overarching constraint of low production cost.
