Project description
The project will explore the potential for technology to support people with early stages of dementia, with a particular focus on physical activity. The CASE Studentship will involve working with the Newcastle University team, with specialist interests in physical activity and ageing, and Philips, a global innovator in technology. The training programme will require the student to spend time with both Newcastle University and Philips.

Value of the award and eligibility
Depending on how you meet the EPSRC’s eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full or a partial award. A full award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and an annual stipend of £13,726 (2013/14). A partial award covers fees at the UK/EU rate only.

Person specification
Candidates must have an upper-second-class Honours degree plus normally further research experience and/or a further qualification such as, for example, an MRes.

This prestigious studentship will suit someone with a background in technology, design, social science, dementia or physical activity. We will work with the student to optimise the training pathway around their key strengths and help the development of new areas of work. We would like the student to explore the potential of technology to help people with early stages of dementia so a wide range of skills, including good interpersonal skills, will be useful.
