EPSRC Fully-funded PhD Studentship: Engineering/Sports Science College of Engineering

Swansea University’s Engineering Behaviour in Sports and Exercise (E-BASE) Research Group is seeking to recruit an Engineer to a fully-funded PhD project.

About the project: The successful student will have significant engineering expertise in systems and process engineering and an empathy towards sports and exercise science. This expertise will be applied to the particular problems and challenges of measuring human behaviour in controlled natural settings in sports and exercise (24/7). This will require appropriate pre-programming of the TAG monitor and communications systems between the monitor and data storage and analysis. The TAG monitor will need to be designed for compliance (printed) and specific analytics will need to be developed to filter and interpret the signals. Our aims are to develop a completed system that measures physical activity and sedentary behaviour specifically and sensitively and provide novel automated approaches to data analysis.

Candidate eligibility: Candidates should hold a 1st class undergraduate degree or a 2:1 with a master’s level qualification in Engineering, Sports Science or Mathematics.

UK students: UK students are eligible for a full award (stipend and fees).

EU students: EU students who have been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant are eligible for a full award (stipend and fees). This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences).

EU students who are ‘ordinarily resident’ in a member state of the EU are generally eligible for a fees-only award.
