DPhil (PhD) in Theoretical Physics (two posts)

Particle Theory, The Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics, University of Oxford

Applications are invited for two DPhil (PhD) positions in Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford. The positions are supported by the European Research Council (ERC) grant “Gauge String Duality” and available from 1st October 2013 for up to 3.5 years. Successful applicants will worktoward DPhil degree under the supervision of Dr Andrei Starinets.

The ERC project “Gauge-String Duality” will focus, in particular, on exploring aspects of non-equilibrium holography with applications to physics of heavy ion collisions and strongly interacting condensed matter systems. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in physics by the start date of the post and a strong background in theoretical and mathematical physics.

Information about Particle Theory group and The Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics is available via the Apply button below and specific enquiries should be directed to Dr Andrei Starinets at andrei.starinets@physics.ox.ac.uk.

To apply, please follow the standard procedure of applying for graduate study in Theoretical Particle Physics via the Apply button below.

Only applications received by midnight, 18 January 2013 can be considered. You will be required to fill in the application form (please indicate “Gauge-String Duality” in the field “Title of research project” and “A Starinets” as “proposed supervisor”), submit a CV, brief statement of research interests, and details of three academic referees.
