4-year EngD studentship Computer modelling of hydrogenation reactions in the organic solid state

Supervisor: Dr Rob Bell, Department of Chemistry, UCL

A 4-year studentship is available in the UCL Chemistry Department to work with Dr Rob Bell and project partners AWE on a computer simulation project to gain atomic-level insight into mechanisms of hydrogenation reactions in organic solids. The project will require the application of classical molecular dynamics simulations and quantum mechanical methods to model the dynamical behaviour and reactivity of various aromatic molecules in condensed phases.

The successful applicant will have a good degree (1st or 2:1) in a relevant subject, e.g. chemistry, physics or materials science, and an interest in computational research. Experience of computer modelling is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided in an active and well-resourced research environment. The project is intended to start in September 2013.

To apply, please email an up-to-date CV to Dr Rob Bell, r.g.bell@ucl.ac.uk, who may also be approached for informal enquiries. Please note that due to funding restrictions only EU citizens, who are ordinarily resident in the UK, are eligible for this studentship.
