Teagasc Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) – Microbiota transplantation



Eligibility: PhD in a relevant discipline with up to 3 years’ (max.) relevant experience

Post Duration: 32 months

Location: Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy Co. Cork

Training Rate: Appointment will be at the minimum point of the Post Doctoral Level 1 (PD1) scale (€33,975). The current PD1 scale is as follows: PD1: €33,975 (min.); €34,974; €36,003 (max.)

Increments will be awarded annually* subject to performance and completion of the prescribed training plan.

Note: Exceptional circumstances may apply for candidates with current or previous service in the public sector. *Remuneration and the annual cycle for the payment of increments may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government policy.

Basic Function of the post:The postdoctoral scientist will have a PHD in microbiology, molecular biology or related discipline. The appointee will be the main researcher responsible for the Faecal Transplantation Platform and will work strategically with Culture to Product Platform of the APC Microbiome Institute www.ucc.ie/apc

The successful candidate will be experienced in microbiology. This candidate will work closely with a technician within the Culture to Product Platform and with postgraduate researchers PHD and MD in the Faecal Transplantation Platform. Focus activities will involve the characterisation, curation and delivery of high quality preparations of bioactive microorganisms that are developed through the research programmes of the APC.

Person Specification

Essential

  • PhD in the probiotic field – microbiology, molecular biology or related discipline.
  • Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years’ post-PhD.

Desirable

  • Strong knowledge of probiotic literature and technological hurdles.
  • Experience in culturing Clostridium difficile.
