PhD Studentship Managing Manufacturing and Maintenance Knowledge

(Ref: PGRO-ENG-04-13)

The Centre for Innovative Product Development and Manufacturing (CiPDM) at the University of Greenwich receives funding from EPSRC through its Industrial CASE (ICASE) scheme. After two successful ICASE projects with BAe Systems, we have another opportunity with the company starting in October 2013. The follow-up applied research project is to investigate how to improve manufacturing efficiency through better management of the processes and information/knowledge in product development, manufacturing and maintenance of production equipment.

We are looking for candidates to apply with a background in manufacturing engineering or related disciplines ideally with good ICT skills. Candidates should have or expected to achieve a degree (2:1 or above). Masters students or those with practical experience in research or industry are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will benefit from both academic and industrial training, have the opportunity to choose within scope study topics and gain a real working experience in a world leading manufacturing centre at BAE Systems, Rochester, Kent.

A tax-free bursary between £18,000 and £20,000 per year for 3 years is available to UK students, plus University tuition fees paid and travel expenses paid to attend appropriate international conferences and seminars. Due to funding restrictions, the bursary is only available to UK applicants or to non-UK applicants who have resided in the UK for the previous three years. Starting date is Oct 2013 or as soon as possible after that. Note that the nominated candidate is subject to approval by EPSRC and BAe Systems. The BAE Systems security clearance documents will need to be provided if selected for an interview.
