PhD Scholarship in Computer Science

The Department of Communication, Business and Information Technologies (CBIT) at Roskilde University invites applications for a PhD scholarship in Computer Science to be filled by 1 September 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The scholarship will be jointly financed by CBIT and a 3-year research project (ENTRA: Whole-Systems Energy Transparency, http://entraproject.eu) that started on 1 October 2012 funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework programme. The goal of the ENTRA project is to promote energy-aware system development, using advanced program analysis and energy modelling techniques to make predictions of energy usage available to the system developer. This will enable optimizations both during code development and at run-time and lead to more energy-efficient computer systems.

Applications should include documentation of their studies demonstrating their aptitude for research. Information on the Masters dissertation or equivalent is especially relevant in this regard. Applicants should have a strong background in at least one of the following areas: programming languages, computer-aided verification, constraint programming, program analysis and transformation, energy-aware system development. Applications must include a detailed PhD project proposal.

Roskilde University (RUC) is situated on a campus just east of the town of Roskilde, 25 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station. PhD students in Computer Science are normally affiliated with the PhD programme DMIT (Design and Management of Information Technology) within the CBIT Doctoral School.
