2017 Winner of Vale Master’s in Engineering Scholarship for Women

Marianne Leroux

We are proud to announce that Marianne Leroux was selected as the 2017 Vale Masters scholarship recipient. Congratulations!

Marianne Leroux is a first-year engineering student at the University of Sherbrooke in the Mechanical Engineering Program. Her enthusiasm and perseverance have allowed her to pursue her university studies as well as academic, extracurricular activities and technical, high-level sports. In 2015, Ms. Leroux was invited to a fourth-year high school class to present a career in engineering. Thankful for the experience, Marianne developed a passion for speaking and teaching. She has now accepted two positions as a teaching assistant in engineering mechanics at the University. Ms. Leroux has also had an article published in the 2017 March edition of Chatelaine of her opinion of women in engineering, she speaks about her experience in a non-traditional career and her interest and passion for engineering. She believes in the importance of young girls having role models. At the end of her first year of study, Marianne designed and manufactured a medical module to facilitate care for the chronically sick and bedridden elderly. Aside from engineering, she also has a love for baseball that began at a young age, she was chosen to represent the Quebec team at the Women’s Canadian Championships. Marianne also keeps herself active with Frisbee, hockey and cross-fit.
