The 2015 PhD scholarship was in the experimental and theoretical optical physics, with emphasis on optical waveguides and related technologies to confine and to control light in ultra-compact devices. This GRK program is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is in collaboration with three Canadian research institutions: the University of Toronto, the Université Laval in Québec City, and the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) in Varennes/Montréal. Selected doctoral students will be offered joint supervision by two German and one Canadian supervisors, a long-term research stay in Canada (6…12 months), and an annual intercontinental summer or winter school with collocated project meetings.
