The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon is offering a fully funded PhD position within its Institute of Hydrogen Technology, in the Department of Experimental Materials Mechanics. This exciting, DFG-funded research project focuses on developing high-performance magnesium (Mg) alloys and uncovering the atomic-scale mechanisms that drive strength and ductility in Mg-rare earth (RE) based systems. Using advanced microstructural characterization and cutting-edge nanoindentation techniques, this research will contribute to alloy optimization, digital twin development, and next-generation RE-free Mg materials.
The position is based in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, Germany, and offers an initial contract of 36 months in a vibrant, international research environment committed to sustainability and climate solutions.
