The University of Alberta Graduate Scholarship offers a fully funded opportunity for international students to pursue Master’s or PhD degrees at one of Canada’s leading institutions. Research Opportunity in Plant Biotechnology
The Plant Biotechnology Lab in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences is currently seeking a highly motivated Master's or PhD student to join cutting-edge research in:
- Metabolic engineering of yeast for the production of value-added bioproducts
- Canola hybrid breeding to enhance crop productivity and sustainability
Research Responsibilities
The selected candidate will work in both laboratory and greenhouse environments as part of a collaborative research team. Key responsibilities include:
- In silico analysis of gene families
- Generation of plant binary constructs
- Canola plant transformation
- Physiological and phenotypic evaluation of transgenic plants
- Genetic and molecular characterization
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the University of Alberta Graduate Scholarship, applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field (for MSc applicants) or a Master’s degree in plant molecular biology or a related discipline (for PhD applicants)
- Be eligible to register in the University of Alberta’s MSc or PhD Program
- Demonstrate a strong background in plant molecular biology
- PhD applicants should have experience in plant tissue culture and transformation
- Have knowledge of computational tools for analyzing gene and protein sequences (preferred)
- Show excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Be able to work independently and collaboratively
- Meet the minimum GPA requirement of 3.3
- Fulfill the admission requirements of the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science
- Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students
