2026 West Texas A&M University Graduate Scholarship-Fully Funded Master’s Assistantship in Herpetology & Ecology (USA)
West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) is offering a fully funded Graduate Research Assistantship for students interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Biology, beginning Spring 2026. This opportunity includes full tuition coverage and a competitive annual stipend of $26,159–$27,794 for a total of 6 consecutive semesters.
Selected students will work under the supervision of Dr. Dylan Maag in the Department of Life, Earth, and Environmental Sciences on a research project focused on Western Massasauga Rattlesnakes (Sistrurus tergeminus), exploring themes in herpetology, spatial ecology, and behavioral ecology.
Project Overview
The field project involves collaborative work between two graduate students and summer field technicians, with shared responsibilities in data collection and habitat selection analysis. Each student will then focus on a specialized area for their thesis:

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the WTAMU Master’s Scholarship, applicants must:

Hold a B.S. in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Zoology, or a related field

Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in undergraduate science courses

Meet the admission requirements for WTAMU’s MS in Biology

Possess a valid driver’s license
-
Be willing to undergo training to safely handle venomous snakes

Be prepared to commit to the full 38-month duration of the project

Preferred (but not required) experience:

Handling venomous snakes

Using R programming, GIS software, or radiotelemetry equipment
