The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) is a prestigious annual initiative sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria. It is designed to support academically outstanding and highly motivated low-income Nigerian students in their pursuit of undergraduate and graduate studies in the United States.
OFP provides comprehensive financial support to cover critical expenses such as application fees, GRE and TOEFL exam fees, visa processing, and travel costs—removing the financial barriers that often prevent talented students from accessing world-class education opportunities.
The program specifically targets students who are strong candidates for full financial aid from U.S. colleges and universities but are unable to afford the initial costs required for the application and admission process.
Since its inception in 2004, the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program has successfully placed over 400 Nigerian students in some of the most selective institutions across North America—with full scholarships and financial aid.

To qualify for the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program, applicants must demonstrate the following:

Selected scholars will receive comprehensive support throughout the U.S. college application process, including:
- Personalized guidance from EducationUSA Advisors through regular seminars
- Coverage of essential application-related expenses such as:
- Standardized testing fees
- Application fees
- International passport
- U.S. visa and SEVIS fees
- One-way airfare to the United States
- Settling-in allowance (if available)
- In special cases and depending on available funding, additional support may include:
- Credential evaluation fees
- Costs for mailing transcripts and I-20 forms
- Extra score reports
- Internet data
Upon successful completion, OFP scholars join the network of U.S. Government Alumni, making them eligible to apply for various alumni grants and opportunities.

- If WAEC results are available, they must be from the May/June WAEC session.
- Students who have already commenced university studies are not eligible to apply.
