Strength & Conditioning Coach & MSc Studentship (x2)



The studentship is part of an exciting collaboration between Cheltenham Town Football Club and the University of Gloucestershire. Applications are invited for our well established taught MSc in Strength and Conditioning. A £2000 contribution towards tuition fees is available to two successful applicants, both to work on a part time basis, with either the U15-16 or the U18 academy. Both individuals will be provided with a club season ticket, full training kit and lunch. The student will be based at the University of Gloucestershire’s Oxstalls Campus and various sites for Cheltenham Town football training.

The key role of the selected coaches are to work alongside club staff delivering physical support to either the U15/16 squads or the U18 squad as well as running regular testing sessions to satisfy the clubs EPPP criteria. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, coaching technical aspects of warm-up, energy system development, strength development and physical testing. A full role specification can be found below. Furthermore you may be expected to help co-ordinate other interns whom may be available to support session delivery. Successful applicant will be managed by Antoine Thompson at CTFC. The position at the club is due to run from July 2016 – May 2017 with the MSc beginning on September 14th 2016.

The Faculty would welcome applications from individuals who have the following qualifications, interests or experiences:

  • First or upper second class (or equivalent) degree in a related subject area (e.g. Strength and Conditioning, Sports Therapy, Football and Science, Physiology, Biomechanics);

  • The applicant to have demonstrable interests and some experience in football.

  • Experience of quantitative data analysis including use of Excel and SPSS

  • Experience of working with youth athletes
