Applications are invited for a highly motivated postgraduate Research Assistant in Inflammatory Disease, to work with Professor Ian Pavord and Dr Luzheng Xue in the Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford. The principal aim of the group is to understand the pathogenic mechanisms mediating asthma, particularly severe asthma, and to translate the findings into therapeutic concepts to treat this disease. The project will involve analysis of the function of immune cells isolated from normal or patient blood samples.
The post requires independence, good communication skills and the ability to present clear, consistent and logical results. You will have a degree in a relevant biological subject including some knowledge of Immunology. The research involves clinical sample handling, blood cell isolation, cell culture and cellular immunology techniques including PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, Western blotting and cell migration assays to assess the responses of immune cells. The ability to work closely with others as well as independently is essential. You will be well organised, flexible and show a willingness to learn new techniques and skills.
This post is full-time, fixed-term for 1 year in the first instance.
