We are seeking a microbiologist to join a Medical Research Foundation funded project entitled ‘Exploiting novel technologies to identify respiratory pathogens and characterise bacterial interactions in patients with cystic fibrosis’. This grant is based at the University of Liverpool and has partners at the University of Birmingham, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. This post is at the core of the project and will involve preparing samples for analysis using new sequencing technologies, characterising microbial populations from patient samples to determine interactions and antibiotic resistance and utilising in vitro models to investigate interactions in greater detail. The outputs from these studies will be evaluated as a potential diagnostic method/pipeline. You should have a PhD in microbiology or molecular biology, be familiar with next generation DNA sequencing and ideally be familiar with bacteriology in human health and disease. The post is available for 3 years.
