PhD Studentships in Social Sciences:

Deadline: 14 February 2014

Social Sciences Graduate School Research PhD Studentships are offered to prospective candidates from the academic year 2013/14.

The Studentships will be available under the Scheme to applicants who, in their research proposal, can clearly demonstrate academic excellence in areas relevant to the strategic interests of the School of Law, in particular Competition Law; Media, Information Technology and Intellectual Property; and the law of Public Protest.

Please see our Law Research Areas and Academic Profiles for more details, and for the research interests of individual members of staff.

The Studentships cover tuition fees (UK/EU rates), a tax-free maintenance grant (currently £13,726 per year), and a research training support grant. International students are welcome to apply but due to funding restrictions must be able to pay the difference between UK/EU fees and international fees. However in some limited cases the School may consider providing “top up” grants covering the international component of tuition fees if a student’s research topic is closely aligned to the strategic interests of the School.

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified graduates. Candidates should hold, or expect to hold, a minimum of at least a good 2.1 degree and preferably a Research Masters degree or equivalent. Candidates may be asked to participate in an interview, which could take place via telephone or Skype as part of the selection process. EU and International applicants may be required to provide evidence of competence in the English Language.
