PhD Studentship Large eddy simulation of flame spread

Application deadline:  6th October 2013
Start date: 1st November 2013
Duration: Three years

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship at Warwick FIRE, a multi-disciplinary research laboratory for numerical simulations of accidental release, fire and explosions.

The project is funded by US based international insurance company FM Global. It involves large eddy simulation (LES) of flame spread with particular focus on the near wall soot and radiation heat transfer. The numerical simulations will be conducted using FireFOAM, which is an LES based fire simulation code within the frame of open source CFD code OpenFOAM®. Apart from the academic and industrial supervisors, you will also benefit from the support of a Senior Research Fellow working on flame spread at Warwick FIRE.

Eligibility: The Scholarship will pay an annual stipend at the standard rate (currently £13,726) and tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for three years. Overseas applicants are welcome to apply but due to funding restrictions, if successful, will have to pay the difference between the Home and Overseas Fees.

Candidates should have a good background in scientific computing and a first or upper second class degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience in FE modelling and experimental research would be advantageous.

How to Apply: We ask that you submit the online application by clicking the APPLY button below and upload your CV and transcripts, please include the Scholarship reference RO-JXW.
