3.5 years full time

£15.7k tax free plus full time home student fees

A new and exciting PhD research opportunity to improve the safety of NDA facilities through the development of hydrogen safety systems with improved resilience to failure during extreme events. The 3.5 year studentship is in conjunction with Sellafield Ltd (funded by an EPSRC industrial CASE award) and should lead to the award of a PhD.

The successful candidate will be joining the Explosion and Fire Research Group within the Department of Applied Science. The team is active in this area and has worked with Sellafield Ltd for over 10 years. The position offers the opportunity for enhanced training and career development by including 3 months industrial placement per year working with Sellafield Ltd.

This studentship is only open to UK or EU nationals. Applicants must have a first or upper second class honours degree in an appropriate area such as engineering, science or mathematics.
