PhD Studentship in Computer Modelling in Coronary Artery Disease

Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health

Supervisor: Professor DR Hose, Prof P Lawford, Dr J Gunn

Project:

This is an opportunity for a graduate with an interest or aptitude in computational modelling to participate in an exciting research programme in which we are modelling coronary blood flow in patients’arteries using images from their coronary angiograms.  We reconstruct their circulation in virtual 3D, compute flow in healthy and diseased segments using CFD, and then model the best revascularisation strategy.  After initial success in an NIHR funded pilot project, we have now obtained further Wellcome/DoH funding to use this tool to determine how we can improve patient care and offer the best possible treatment.  Your task would be to extend this work into comparing how this tool compares with the traditional clinical decision-making strategy as we enter the next phase, leading onto major clinical trials.  (J Am Coll Cardiol Cardiovasc Intv 2013;6:149–57)
