PhD Studentship Functional supramolecular self-assembly at surfaces

Supervisor: Dr Giovanni Costantini

Project description:  A PhD Studentship is available to work on a multidisciplinary collaborative project involving three international leading research groups. The successful applicant will use state of the art experimental equipment including scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and UPS) to investigate the surface-confined synthesis and characterisation of covalent polymers and new functional 2D materials, and the interplay between supramolecular self-assembly and charge transfer at metal-organic interfaces. A very close teamwork is programmed between the three groups with various occasions for collaboration and exchanges. Measurement campaigns at UK and overseas synchrotron facilities are anticipated.

Tax free stipend for the student is approximately £13,500/year.

Requirements: Applicants should have (or be about to receive) an excellent master’s (or equivalent) degree in physics, chemistry, engineering or materials science.

Applications are open to UK, EU and Overseas students.

How to apply: Applicants are required to provide:

  • an academic CV;
  • official full list of courses and grades from the university;
  • contact details of two suitable referees;
  • a covering letter outlining the applicant’s suitability for the study and his/her research experience to date.

Applications should be emailed to: The successful candidate will be required to submit a formal University of Warwick on-line application to fulfil the normal admissions process. Any enquiries relating to the project and/or suitability should be directed to Dr Costantini at the address above.
