PhD Studentship Development of CFD Algorithms for Turbo-Machinery

LEAD SUPERVISOR NAME: Prof. Nick Hills

FUNDING STATUS: Directly Funded Project (Students worldwide)

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications accepted all year round

RESEARCH GROUP: Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Thermo-Fluid Systems

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to develop novel computational fluid dynamics (CFD) algorithms within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) for Thermo-Fluid Systems at the University of Surrey.

The Thermo-Fluid Systems UTC has been actively involved in CFD development for many years. Implicit CFD algorithms have been demonstrated to be much more efficient than explicit algorithms for certain classes of problems. This project will aim to develop improved implicit algorithms within a Rolls-Royce in-house CFD code.

Students interested in this project should have a good first degree in a relevant field, should be highly motivated, and have an aptitude for both programming and numerical work. This project would particularly suit applicants with an applied mathematics degree and an interest in engineering.

FUNDING NOTES

A full studentship (payment of tuition fees and a stipend of approximately £19,000 pa) is available for this project. The studentship is open to overseas applicants with full payment of tuition fees but with a reduced stipend. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Early application is therefore highly encouraged.
