PhD research position in International Economics



The Chair of Applied Economics is part of the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich. It is associated to the KOF Swiss Economic Institute (
www.kof.ethz.ch ) and its members work in close collaboration with the Center for Economic Research (www.cer.ethz.ch). Successful candidates are expected to conduct quantitative (theoretical and empirical) research in the field of international economics.

The successful candidate will contribute to a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) research project on international trade. This project aims at making progress in the quantitative analysis of modern models of trade with a focus on economic policy. The main focus of this position will be on research.

The candidate should hold an MA in economics or a related field (ideally, with knowledge of numerical or statistical methods). Interest in applied economic research is of advantage. The goal of the position is to write research papers of high quality to acquire a Ph.D. in Economics. An excellent command of English is required.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct academic and policy-relevant economic research in an inspiring environment at ETH Zurich. The position implies writing a dissertation related to the research project. The appointment is for a fixed term of three years. Gross salary will in accordance with the regulations of the ETH Zurich and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF). Ideally the starting date should be May 2015 but there is room for negotiation.
