For the Institute for International and European Policy we are looking for a
PhD Research Fellowship in Social Sciences (50%)
The PhD project will be linked to the research of the Centre for Research on Peace and Development (CRPD). CRPD is a multidisciplinary research centre at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Leuven University (KU Leuven) in Belgium. CRPD’s multidisciplinary team conducts conceptual, empirical and applied research with the aim of improving our understanding of the causes of violent conflicts and the challenges of sustainable peace building. Profile
- The applicant should have completed a Master’s degree in sociology, economics, political science, development studies or any other closely related subject;
- The applicant should have an outstanding educational background and academic record;
- The applicant should have excellent analytical and writing skills (any peer-reviewed publications will be an advantage);
- The applicant should have considerable experience with quantitative research and should be able to statistically analyze survey data.
In evaluating the applications, academic qualifications together with the project description will be given more weight than other disciplinary and general qualifications. Personal suitability will also be an important factor. Short-listed applicants will be contacted for an interview.
Applicants must submit a short research proposal which includes research question(s), choice of theoretical framework, research design, sources and methods. The proposal should also explain how the applicant’s proposed PhD project will contribute to the research objectives of CRPD. The electronic application must include:

Offer
- A half-time PhD Fellowship (50%) for 2 years, starting October-November 2013. The Fellowship position is twice renewable until a maximum of 6 years
