PhD position in Experimental Physics with focus on nanostructured materials for solar cells



The Marie Curie Initial Training Network AEOLUS4FUTURE invites applications for 1 full-time research positions for Early Stage Researchers (ESR). Details about  AEOLUS4FUTURE can be found here.

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION

Steel Structure includes innovative design of steel and composite structures, construction techniques and contributes to the continuous improvement of standards and regulations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The ESR project will deal with High strength steel hybrid towers for wind turbines. The major objective is to develop a competitive solution using newly developed knowledge on friction connections, optimal cross-sections of hybrid tower consisting of tubular and lattice sections using high performance steel and bolted connections.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Researchers applying for any of the advertised ESR positions must (at the time of recruitment) be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and do not have a doctoral degree.

This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided.

CONDITIONS OF MOBILITY OF RESEARCHERS

Researchers can be of any nationality.

Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment.

At the time of recruitment, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of the chosen host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the start date of their employment. Short stays such as holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • Educational background in structural engineering (Essential)
  • A MSc (or equivalent experience) in Civil and Structural Engineering (Desirable)
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, report writing skills and experience of delivering presentations(Essential)
  • Management skills (Desirable)
  • Team working (Essential)
  • Project management (Desirable)
  • Experience in using software such as ABAQUS, Mathcad, Matlab and programming skills(Desirable)

INFORMATION

The ESR will be enrolled in a Ph.D. programme.

Terms and conditions of employment: In accordance to Marie Curie Fellowship rules.

Salary:  In accordance to Marie Curie Fellowship rules. In addition to competitive pay, the researcher will benefit from a mobility allowance and contribution for participating in networking, training and knowledge transfer activities.
