Ph.D. Position: Ultrafast, element-selective spin dynamics in magnetic layers using laser-based high harmonics

The department of electronic properties at the Peter Grunberg Institute (PGI-6) of Forschungszentrum Julich is offering a Ph.D. position in the field of element-selective spin dynamics on femtosecond timescale.
The understanding of interaction between photons, electrons, spins and phonons on femtosecond timescale is crucial for developing novel fast and efficient electronic and spintronic devices. This project provides opportunity to investigate femtosecond spin dynamics in magnetic multilayers on femtosecond time scales with element selectivity employing unique experimental capabilities based on laser-generated high harmonics.

Scholarship description
We are looking for a Masters or Diploma student to start his or her Ph.D. work in our Magnetization Dynamics Group. The new member of our team will be looking into fascinating spin-dynamics phenomena happening on femtosecond time scales. The experimental part will employ our newly-developed pump-probe experimental setup that includes laser excitation and high harmonics probe. The studies will be performed on multilayer structures designed and fabricated using in-house sample preparation facilities. Intensive support in modeling and calculations is provided in collaboration with a theory groups in Julich and abroad.
