Funding Opportunities for Taught MA in Philosophy



The Department of Philosophy at the University of York is offering two scholarships and five bursaries for students interested in taught masters study in Philosophy in 2014.

Postgraduate Scholarships

The Department is offering two Research Preparation Masters Scholarships through the White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities (WRoCAH), a partnership of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

  • Fully Funded Research Preparation Masters Scholarship comprising a fee-waiver at the UK/EU rate (?6,200) along with an AHRC-equivalent Research Preparation Masters level stipend (?9,585 at the 2013 rate).
  • Fee-waiver Research Preparation Masters Scholarship comprising a fee waiver at the UK/EU rate (?6,200).

Students must apply for a place to study on the taught MA in Philosophy programme before making their scholarship application.? The Scholarships are aimed specifically at students who are intending to progress to doctoral studies so applicants are asked to address their post-MA study and career aspirations in their personal statements, when applying for a place on the programme.?

The deadline for receipt of scholarship applications is midnight GMT on Friday 9 May 2014. Those students wishing to apply for the scholarships must also have applied for a place on the taught MA in Philosophy by midnight GMT on Friday 9 May 2014.

Postgraduate Bursaries

The Philosophy Department is also offering five one-year bursaries to students starting the taught MA in Philosophy on a full-time basis in September 2014. The bursaries will comprise a fee reduction of ?1,200.

Any student who is made an offer of a full-time place on the taught MA in Philosoph starting in September 2014 will automatically be considered for a bursary provided that their application for a place on the programme has been submitted by midnight on 9 May 2014.
