Fees Only MSc by Research Studentship: Investigating the Relationship between Physical Activity and Metabolic Control in Children with Type I Diabetes



Applications are invited for a fees only MSc by Research studentship in Exercise & Health Physiology and Psychology. This studentship is aligned to the University’s MSc by Research Sports Science programme.

Regular physical activity is advocated due to the range of health benefits it provides in children with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). Although regular PA participation has been shown to reduce the development of long term diabetic-related complications, research with regards to the influence of regular PA on metabolic control is conflicted. Therefore, the aim of this study will be to objectively examine the relationship between regular PA participation and metabolic control in child and adolescent patients with IDDM.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Melitta McNarry and will be based within the state of the art facilities of the Department of Sports and Exercise Science, situated in Swansea University’s Bay Campus.

The successful candidate is expected to start their studentship in October 2016.

Academic Requirements:

Candidates should hold a 2:1 undergraduate degree or above in a relevant subject area, such as Sport and Exercise Science, Medicine, Physiology, Psychology or Computer Science.

Applicants should also have the ability to communicate effectively with others and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
