About the project:
The Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Materials at Swansea University is a member of the EPSRC Strategic Partnership in Structural Metallic Systems for Gas Turbine Applications.
Expressions of interest are now invited from UK resident students (as per EPSRC criteria) against a PhD/EngD project sponsored by Rolls-Royce plc covering the following technical themes:
- Resistance/diffusion bonding
- Gamma titanium aluminide alloys
- Novel joining interfaces
Candidate eligibility:
UK students:
UK students are eligible for a full award (stipend and fees).
EU students:
EU students who have been âordinarily residentâ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant are eligible for a full award (stipend and fees). This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences).
EU students who are ordinarily resident in a member state of the EU are generally eligible for a fees-only award.
Academic requirements:
Applicants should have a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in materials science, material engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics.
Studentship value:
The studentship covers UK/EU tuition fees (please see residency requirements for EU students), a stipend of £15226 per annum, plus an industrial ‘top up’ of up to £5000 per annum.
