First Things First: What’s the Interview Like?
The PTDF interview is not as intimidating as you might think. In fact, it’s more of a friendly conversation than a formal panel grilling.
-
Duration: 5–10 minutes
-
Style: Conversational
-
Goal: Assess your motivation, aspiration, readiness, and alignment with PTDF’s goals
Now, let’s break it down by section (with scoring)!
SECTION 1: MOTIVATION (Max. 20 Marks)
A. How did your research interest begin, and why is it important? (7 marks)
Talk about how you discovered your current research focus. Was it your undergraduate project? A personal passion? A problem you want to solve in your industry?
B. Why do you want to pursue a Master’s degree? (8 marks)
Avoid saying “to travel abroad.” Focus on your academic drive, knowledge gaps, and why foreign institutions offer better research alignment.

This is personal to you — reflect deeply before the interview. Link your choice to your career path, interest, or impact goals.

Connect your aspirations to national development and the oil & gas industry, in line with PTDF’s mandate.
B. What will you do after your Master’s? (7 marks)

A. How have your past academic or work experiences prepared you? (7 marks)

Sell yourself confidently. Mention awards, top results, leadership, internships — anything exceptional.

Have you published something, led a team, built a tool, or initiated change? Mention it.
