AHRC Professional Preparation Master’s Studentships – Music

The International Centre for Music Studies (ICMuS) at Newcastle is part of the School of Arts and Cultures. We have excellent postgraduate facilities including: a brand new suite of dedicated electro-acoustic and recording studios; practice rooms and concert hall; orchestral and percussion instruments; a substantial collection of recordings and musicological documents; full online access to over 100 music journals and online collections, including Alexander Street Press, the Folk Archive Resource North East and the Garland Encyclopaedia of World Music; and a new £4.5 million music building providing state-of-the-art studio and practice facilities.

For 2013, Music is able to submit nominations to an open competition across all the University’s Block Grant Partnership (BGP) professional preparation subjects for the award of two AHRC master’s studentships through the AHRC’s Professional Preparation scheme. This scheme supports students undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s course that focuses on developing high level skills and competencies for professional practice.

Home (UK) students and those EU students who have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years are eligible for a full award comprising fees and an annual, tax free stipend of £8,845 (2012/13 rates). Other EU students are eligible for a fees-only award.  To see if you would be eligible for a full or fees only award, please refer to the AHRC’s residency eligibility criteria in Annex A of the AHRC Studentship Funding Guide(PDF: 500KB).

Eligibility
You should meet the AHRC’s student eligibility criteria* and be intending to undertake the Master of Music (MMus) programme at Newcastle University in September 2013.
