Applications are invited for four fully funded MScR/PhD studentships available to start in September 2014 within the Faculty Research Centre for Research in Psychology, Behaviour and Achievement at Coventry University.
There are 13 projects that candidates can apply for and the applicant pool will be shortlisted based on applicant quality rather than project. The projects available span the four main areas of the Centre, namely: Child development and education (CDE): Cognition, Neuropsychology and Psychopharmacology (CNaP): Identity and Resilience in Individuals and Organisations (IRCO), and Violence and Interpersonal Aggression (VIA).
You will lead a team of technical staff who provide support across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including biomedical sciences, analytical and forensic sciences and environmental monitoring.
Entry Criteria
All applicants must have evidence of academic attainment as indicated. However, some subject areas will additionally require further evidence of specified attainment.
Entry criteria for applicants to MSc/MA by Research:
- A minimum of a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline/subject area with a minimum 60% mark in the Project element or equivalent with a minimum 60% overall module average.
Entry criteria for applicants to PhD:
- A minimum of a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline/subject area with a minimum 60% mark in the Project element or equivalent with a minimum 60% overall module average.
In the event of a first-degree classification of less than 2:1, a Masters Degree in a relevant subject area will be considered as an equivalent. The Masters must have been attained with overall marks at merit level (60%). In addition, the dissertation or equivalent element in the Masters must also have been attained with a mark at merit level (60%).
Any successful candidates who do not have a Masters-level qualification will enrol on the MScR regulations in the first instance with the ability to upgrade to a full PhD at the end of 12 months. Any successful candidates with a Masters-level qualification will enrol onto PhD regulations. Regardless of which regulations are enrolled upon, the full PhD will be completed within 36 months. Funding is not available beyond the 36-month limit.
In addition to completing the application form, please also provide the following:
- A 2500 word research proposal detailing how you would conduct a preliminary study linked to the project of interest. This should be as detailed as possible with clear justifications for the methodological decisions made. Please note, on the application form it states that you should provide a 2000 word research proposal. For these studentships you have 2500 words for the proposal.
- A 300 word statement which addresses the question: What qualities and competencies do I have that will help me successfully conduct this research?
The proposal should be appended as a separate document to your application form, as should your response to the question in item 2. Applications that are not accompanied by BOTH of these documents AND personal references AND the completed application form will not be considered.
