2014 Full-time Studentships, Department of Environment, Earth & Ecosystems

Based in Milton Keynes

The Science Faculty invites applications for full-time studentships; projects are available in the following general areas:

  • Environmental & climatic change
  • Earth system dynamics
  • Ecosystem function

Funding is from a range of sources but is mainly through the UK research councils; sources include the Central England NERC Training Alliance (CENTA) of which The Open University is one of five university partners. For research council studentships, due to funding restrictions only UK citizens or those who have ordinarily been resident in the UK throughout the preceding 3 years are eligible for full funding.

The three-year research studentships provide a maintenance grant of £13,726 per year (2013 rate) and all academic fees are covered. For research council studentships there is an additional ~6 months of funding available.

Scientific proposals for each of the PhD projects, along with information about training, the department and how to apply can be found at the Apply button below.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 31 January 2014

Applications, comprising a brief letter of motivation, an up-to-date CV and the names and addresses of 3 academic referees should be submitted to the first named supervisor at The Department of Environment, Earth and Ecosystems, Faculty of Science, The Open University, Milton Keynes MK7 6AA as soon as possible; or contact Science-Research-Degrees@open.ac.uk for more information. Almost all of our successful applicants have a 1st or 2i honours degree in a relevant science subject and a Masters/MSci/MESci or equivalent experience.

Equal opportunity is University policy.
